Millage

Fellow St. Joseph Charter Township Taxpayers;

On November 7, you will be presented with three millage proposals that will have a significant impact on our community. Each of these proposals is an investment in our future. Your elected officials have worked very hard on the amount and terms of these proposals to meet the township’s financial needs, while being aware that no one likes tax increases.

Airport Authority .10 Mills
The renewal of a community wide 10 year financial support of the Airport Authority.

Because additional communities are participating in this proposal, the renewal rate is reduced from the current .25 mills to .10 mills. This means that if you are paying $25.00 per year today, the new amount would be $10.00 per year, or $0.83 per month.

Library Services .45 Mills
A new millage, dedicated to the purchase of library services in the amount of .45 mills for 10 years. Our current Library contract has an automatic rollover provision. This tax proposal is an increase in taxes. If your property has a market value of $100,000, your tax would be $22.50 per year, or $1.88 per month.

General Fund Operations .50 Mills
This is an additional operating millage for 10 years to be applied to general needs of the township. We have a long list of undone projects in the township due to the reduction of state revenue sharing monies. The township has not had a general mill increase in over 20 years. Our first priority is the funding of a replacement fire station serving the Fairplain area. Other capital and operational projects, such as our parks system, have been on hold for several years. If your property has a market value of $100,000, your tax would be $25.00 per year, or $2.08 per month.
